Squidoo Hop: Flagging Frustrations

Hello, and welcome fellow Squido Lensmasters! For those who aren't travelling here by blog hop and don't know what Squidoo is, it's just a place where you can make nifty little web pages about any topic you choose, and maybe earn a little money for yourself or a charity in the process.

Oh, and Squidoo has been making some changes...not allowing things that have been fine for sometime, locking lense, flagging lenses.  And I've been scrambling to keep up.

Before I flagging had even started, I went in to edit My Vintage Alphabet Posters lens and learned I couldn't publish it without fixing it first.  That lead to me doing a bunch of research about the posters I had featured, and even lead to a lead for some other great additions (one Etsy seller I asked a question of offered to help me in future research...I'll be posting some of her vintage restorations soon).

The the flagging officially began, and I found several of mine flagged.  One I deleted (a one about Black Friday linkies I didn't care to try to keep up anyways).   I worked like crazy and got two of them fixed.  Another I worked like crazy on but couldn't figure out why it wouldn't publish.   Easter weekend (when I usually fast from the internet) was approaching and so I decided to quit  since "they would only be unpublishing them" and I'd have more time to work on getting them republished later...or so I thought.

Come Monday morning I saw that one of the lenses I had left "to work on later" had been unflagged, one still had a flag but said I had until late April to fix it...and two of them had been locked.  CRAP.    I'm letting one of those (My Art Nouveau Calendar One) go.  The other, My Giveaway Linkies Lens, which I had worked like crazy to try to fix and which didn't have ONE money-making module on it (or affiliate link out), I have moved to this blog.  It was one which got tons of traffic, was consistently in tier 2, and which I used for my own reference frequently.  I'm frustrated because other similar giveaway linky list lenses on Squidoo remained...so I was wrong about it being a banned subject (thought after trying to fix it unsuccessfully that maybe they considered it a gambling lens).  I think now that maybe I just used the word "giveaway" on it too many times.  WHO KNOWS.  I wish the algorithm would have been more clear on WHAT was wrong with the lenses.

Anyways, so then the next day I go on Squidoo to fix the one that was flagged but not locked (My Texas Christmas Cards and Ornaments Lens).  It was now LOCKED.  (Grrrrrr....I had started to fix and I would have finished the day before, but they said "you have this much time."  The algorithm LIED.)

And then, today, I go in again to work on some stuff and I see ANOTHER lens of mine has been flagged.  SHOOT.  I thought this was OVER!

It's the uncertainty that is freaking me out!    I don't trust the dates they give anymore...but I am going to risk letting it go one more night.  HOPEFULLY, that newly flagged lens will not be locked in the morning.

My Favorite Giveaway Linkies!

One of the easiest ways to draw traffic to your blog is to give something away. It's not just that giveaways are popular--they're easy to advertise for, too! There are hundreds of sites where you can advertise your giveaways for free. Read on to learn some of the best places to list your blog giveaways

My Top 3 Giveaway Link Sites
While there are many, many sites to list your giveaways on, I've found that most bring in few hits (usually around 2-3 hits each, usually). The following sites 10 sites are the exception. When I list my giveaways on the sites below they typically bring in 10-60 hits each.  The first three are the real powerhouses...they've stayed consistently on this list through many updates and always do well, but they have some restrictions.

Airplanes & Dragonflies (Giveaway Under 500 entries)
If you have a giveaway with under 500 entries she will post it on her Last Chance giveaway and may also post it in daily "low entry giveaway" posts. You submit giveaways via a form.

Mom Does Review Super Saturday Linky Party
Posted every Saturday

International Giveaways
Site usually only accepts giveaways which are open internationally, and has always sent a lot of traffic.

Past Top Linkies
These have fallen out of the top 10 for various reasons. Some are still good to add too, but just may have fallen below others. A few of these are temporarily not taking new links.
Contest Listing
Submit Via Web Form.
The Steady Hand - Rafflecopter Giveaway Linky
Ongoing linky which accepts only Rafflecopter giveaways. She has another giveaway linky for any type of giveaway here, but I find the Rafflecopter one is the real traffic draw.

Sweepstakes Advantage (Now Paid Only)
Submit via form. You need to be registered to submit giveaways but giveaway submission is free.

Cloth Giveaway Round-up
Every Friday this blog posts a list of cloth-diaper giveaways followed by a general linky that all family friendly giveaways can be posted on.

Other Great Places to Post Giveaways
While the ones above are my best bets for consistent traffic, depending on the type of giveaway you have, other sites may work better for you.  Here are some suggestions.

If you're having a hard time getting people to enter, these lists are perfect for you.  Most of the time they list giveaway under 200 entries (sometimes less), and some have time restrictiosn (such as ending within the next week).

If you're giveaway is open outside the US, or is a local giveaway only availaible to people of a certain state or city, than regional or international linkies are a good place to list it.

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words.  So if you have a visually appealing product, you might want to list it on one of these pictoral/thumbnail linkies.

There are linkies out there focusing just on specific types of giveaways (book giveaways, baby giveaways, giveaways from specific stores).  These linkies might give you more traffic than others if you have a giveaway that fits their topic.

OK, these won't give you any more traffic than others, but the cool thing about giveaways which use a Mister Linky form is that once you've entered your giveaway into one form, usually the next form will automatically fill in your title/URL (you only have to click submit).  That makes these forms VERY EASY to fill in, and you can go through a lot of them very quickly.  And one or two hits from A WHOLE LOT OF LINKIES makes up for a lot of hits.

Ongoing Giveaway Link-Ups
Most of these are included above.   These tend to be crowded link-ups, but if you have a giveaway with a late end date and you get yours in early, yours will rise to the top if these are pruned.

If you want to take the time to list your giveaways EVERYWHERE POSSIBLE, these sites list even more giveaways.  And if you're looking for places to FIND giveaways, these might be even better than my top ten (since they may be getting less traffic).

Places to Share Blogger Opps
Are you planning a group giveaway or other giveaway event?  Below are some good places to share them (or to look for places to join).
Giveaway Monkey Giveaway Opps

Advertise With Bloggers Giveaways Facebook Group
They have a thread where you can list blogger opps.
Blog Events and Leads Facebook Page
Mostly giveaways, but you can post opps too.

2 Just Be You
Giveaways on the top, then linkies, then opps at the bottom.

CampusBookRentals and Operation Smile

Are you a student? Looking for a place to find textbooks that's cheaper than your Campus Bookstore? When you rent books at CampusBookRentals.com you not only save 40% to 90% off new bookstore prices, you also help a child smile...because for every book rental they donate a portion of the profits to Operation Smile, an organization that performs cleft lip surgeries on children whose families could not otherwise afford it.  Check out the video below about how Operation Smile changes children's lives.

I was not compensated for this post. I did create post for CampusRentals on another blog which I was paid for, but when I found out about their partnership with Operation Child I wanted to share about that here for free.

Low Entry Giveaway Linkies

If your giveaway is nearing it's end and you still have few entries, these places might help. Each has a different definition of "low comment/entry." Some are under 200, some are under 100, some have limits on when the contest ends, etc.  (I will be editing this to put it in order by day posted soon).  And of course, if you are looking to enter giveaways, these will generally be easier for you to win, since there are less people entered to these.

DAILY, MONTHLY AND ONGOING
You can always submit to these linkies.  Expired giveaways are removed occassionally, or new linkies are posted daily.

Airplanes and Dragonflies
Lists giveaways daily.  Accepts up to 500 entries, but those with 200 entries or less are listed first.

Giveaways 4 Mom
Lists giveaways under 500 entries
