Stamp Out Hunger - And a Giveaway

This is easiest food drive ever! Seriously, you don't have to take the food anywhere but your mailbox--and the post office will pick it up for you for free! How easy is that.

This is also a great time to do some spring cleaning of your cabinets. Do you know that canned food, and boxed food, expires? Yes, it does. So, go check those cabinets...check the expiration dates on that food, and ask yourself, am I really going to use this before it expires? If you don't think you will, why not toss it in a box and put it by your mailbox on May 8? (And if it's already expired, toss it out, for your own safety).

GIVEAWAY
Oh yeah...I mentioned a giveaway, didn't I? To promote this good cause (which I am not affiliated with in any way), I thought I'd give away some food related stuff that doesn't come in cans or boxes...to one of you!

One of you can win the book "Should I Eat This?" from the editors of ShopSmart, as well as some articles on healthy living, and some recipes (some healthier than others). There's a few coupons in there too.

Want to win this? Do any of the things on the list below, and make sure to leave a comment for each thing saying what you did, and also include an e-mail):
  1. Commit to take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive by leaving some food for your mail carrier (you don't have to sign anything...just say you will).
  2. Twitter about Stamp Out Hunger and include the URLhttp://www.helpstampouthunger.com
  3. Blog about Stamp Out Hunger.
  4. Place the stamp out hunger widget or badge on your blog or website.
  5. Do anything else to promote Stamp Out Hunger that I don't have listed here and tell me what you did.
Giveaway ends May 7, 2010 and is open to US entrants only. If you don't claim your prize within 1 week, or if you leave no way to contact you, you forfeit it.

Smart Cents Mom - A Review

A while back I did a giveaway for some free advertising, including a banner or text link on one of my sites and a write-up on my three blogs. The winner was not choosen randomly, but selected based on the quality of their site and how well that site "fit" with the website of mine which they wanted to get an ad on. The winner was Smart Cents Mom, an excellent blog which helps moms (and anyone really) save money. The blog was easy to navigate and pleasing on the eyes, and I agreed with her that it would be useful to my Survey Review readers, as paid surveys tend to attract people who need ways to earn, or save, a little money.

On Smart Cents Mom you can find coupons, freebies, giveaways, reviews, and money saving budget tips, including do-it-yourself money savers, and make-at-home recipes. For example, did you know that restaurants often send coupons and freebies to customers who fill out their comment cards? You don't have to make a complaint--you can fill one out a card to compliment the service or comment on the wonderful taste of your meal, and if you include your address you will often find a free coupon in your mailbox soon afterwards. That's just one of the money saving tips I found on Smart Cents Mom. I hope you all will stop by for a visit--it really is worth your while!

NOTE: If you are interested in advertising on any of my sites, I am still selling ads for as little as $1 for two years (yes, that's right--TWO YEARS!). AND, 100% of the money I earn from these ads will be donated to MercyCorps, an organization helping victims of the earthquakes in Haiti and Chili, and helping people affected by poverty, disaster, and oppression around the world. You can see the ad spaces available and the various prices here.

Strange and Funny Giveaways

I've been stumbling on lots of giveaways this month for some funny, odd, and unusual stuff!

There's this cool Snow White Mac Book Decal from Lil Decal Shop you can win over at Ms. Modern. If anyone ever wondered if giveaways lead to sales, well...this one did, because I showed the shop to my husband (there's so much geeky goodness there--a great place to shop for your guy friends) and got something.

The next thing I found was this wonderfully wild umbrella from UrbanTrim that changes color when it gets wet. The spots start out white then slowly change to the colors you see pictured when it gets rained on.

You can enter to win one at Sweeps 4 Bloggers through Feb 27.

And here's a REALLY strange one. MyCandyEyes.com sells all sorts of strange, wild contact lenses (and some more regular color changing ones). You can put stars in your eyes, make your eyes look like soccer balls, or give yourself anime cartoon eyes like the ones pictured here. Not sure if I'd want to do that (hmmm....maybe for Halloween), but it sure is fun to look. You can enter to win a pair at International Giveaways through March 2nd.

The last giveaway is actually not for something that odd--a very practical diaper bag with a built in wipes container. But it was the company name and logo that cracked me up. The company is His Royal Heine and, well, you can see the logo for yourself on the right--isn't that a hoot?! You can win one over at Organic Girl 0 Giveaways and Reviews (through March 18).

Watch For Scams

Well, I just almost e-mailed a scammer. I had entered a giveaway for a lovely Shell necklace as part of One World, One Heart...and got a message that landed (properly) in my spam mail folder saying "Send your details to mr.bruce_07@live.com for your shell won prize." Well, sometimes legit blog giveaway messages get transfered into SPAM so I almost answered it...but then, because that was ALL it said (not anything about the blog...not even in the sig, which is unusual) I decided to look the e-mail up on google and guess what: pages and pages about this guy scamming people. WHEW! That was a near miss!

So, if you get that message, avoid it like the plague. It's not from anyone you entered a contest with.
